Community Outreach - Missouri Health Professionals

I was honored to be invited to speak by the Missouri Health Professionals Consortium (MHPC) regarding my expertise on mental health treatment using the Emotional Freedom Technique. The MHPC focuses on providing quality health education for rural Missourians. The programs they offer include Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant and Medical Lab Technician.

Professor Brett Butler, the Program Director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, asked me to give a demonstration of EFT along with guidance on how to use EFT to treat the clientele his students primary work with, which include children and individuals on the autism spectrum.

Some highlights of the talk include:

  • Children respond very quickly to EFT and can resolve intense emotions faster than adults

  • Focusing on body sensations with children can aid in healing past trauma, circumventing the still developing rational mind

  • Clients on the autism spectrum still experience the full range of human emotions and that said emotions tend to be more intense than their normative counterparts

  • It is vital to be direct, honest and logical with clients on the autism spectrum. Visualizations & metaphors tend to be less effective.

I love giving these customized talks to communities who are looking for mental health support for their clientele or staff. If you know of an organization such as a school program, charity or for-profit corporation who is looking to expand their mental health knowledge and walk away with practical tools that can be used to make their work more effective, I would greatly appreciate an introduction.
